Introducing $DEV: The token backing the developers who build the future onchain
In every thriving ecosystem, the people building it are the beating heart. But if you’ve spent any time in web3, you know the hard truth: discovering talent is messy, rewarding it is harder, and keeping builders around? Even tougher.
That’s exactly what $DEV is here to change.
What Is $DEV?
DEV is the native token of the Scout Protocol, a system designed to reward the people building the future and the ones who help surface that talent.
The protocol creates a game-like environment where developers, scouts, and ecosystems all win together. Think of it like fantasy sports, but for open source contributions, where performance isn’t just for bragging rights but directly tied to incentives.
What Is the Scout Protocol?
The Scout Protocol is a new way to align incentives across developers, scouts, and blockchain ecosystems. Inspired by the concept of fantasy sports, the platform gamifies talent discovery and contribution to open source projects. Here’s how it works:
Developers: Developers who contribute to approved GitHub repositories and drive the growth of decentralized networks.
Scouts: Individuals who identify and support promising developers, earning rewards as their chosen talent succeeds.
Ecosystems: Blockchain networks that benefit from sustained developer engagement, ensuring long-term innovation.
The Scout Foundation: Oversees governance, token distribution, and ensures the sustainability of the protocol.
$DEV is the native token facilitating this ecosystem, creating a positive-sum game where contributions and collaboration are richly rewarded.
How $DEV Works
For Scouts:
Scouts participate by minting Developer Cards (ERC-1155 NFTs) representing the developers they believe in. As these developers excel, scouts earn $DEV based on the developer's success. This system incentivizes scouts to identify and support high-potential talent early.
For developers:
Developers earn $DEV by performing qualified actions in approved GitHub repositories, such as:
Commit code to an approved open source project
Submitting and merging pull requests.
Completing streaks of three PRs.
Making their first-ever contribution to a qualified project.
Generate onchain transactions
Additionally, 20% of the proceeds from their Developer Cards are allocated directly to them, ensuring developers are rewarded both for their work and their visibility within the ecosystem.
For Ecosystems:
Networks like Optimism and Celo can sponsor specific repositories and issues, directing developer efforts toward high-priority areas. This targeted engagement ensures that the most critical projects receive the attention they need, while ecosystems reward contributions aligned with their strategic goals.
Join the Game
Whether you’re a developer, scout, or protocol looking to grow, the Scout Protocol offers a place where your contributions are valued and your efforts rewarded.
